University pulled away in the second half Thursday night to win at Indiana School for the Deaf, 62-37, and hit the 10-win mark on the season.
The Trailblazers (10-2) held an early 14-9 lead after one quarter on the strength of a pair of Brooke Andrus 3-pointers, but found themselves behind 16-14 after surrendering the first seven points of the second quarter. University finished the first half on a 9-2 run, though, and carried a 23-18 advantage into the break.
University got things going offensively in the second half, though, building its lead in the third quarter before cementing the final result early in the fourth.
Held to just four points in the first half, Lindsey Syrek got going in the third with eight, while Natalie Nickless responded to a three-point first half with a seven-point third quarter. Syrek and Nickless finished on those 12- and 10-point marks, respectively, but their third-quarter offensive contributions keyed the expansion of University’s lead to double figures.
After Syrek and Nickless got going in the third to build a 42-30 lead headed to the fourth, it was Andrus and Lily Snyder who cemented the win in the fourth. Andrus hit another 3-pointer and a trio of 2-pointers to score nine in the quarter, good for a team-high 15 on the game, while Snyder pitched in six fourth-quarter points to finish with 11.
University’s scoring was balanced Thursday night — Lucy Snyder pitched in eight and Lilly Fair added five — as the Trailblazers secured their third consecutive double-digit-win season.
The Trailblazers return to action next Thursday, when they face Seton Catholic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
