SafeHome, a home security system ranking and review website, recently released its assessment of the safest cities in Indiana with populations of at least 32,000, and three Hamilton County communities ranked highest on the list.
In the top spot is Carmel with a safety score of 88.4, which places it in the top 10th percentile in the United States. It’s no secret that Carmel has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the country for several years – its population has grown from about 37,000 in 2000 to more than 88,000 today. The median income per household is $101,494, and that high standard of living means less violent crime and property crime. Furthermore, for every one police officer in Carmel there are 655 residents.
Fishers placed No. 2 with a safety score of 87.31, meaning it’s in the top 25th percentile in the country. Its population is similar to Carmel’s, with over 88,000 residents. Violent crime and property crime is low as well, with 791 residents per police officer in the city.
Coming in as third-safest city in the state is Westfield with a safety score of 86.58. Significantly smaller than either Carmel or Fishers, Westfield has over 36,000 residents. Unlike Carmel and Fishers, though, Westfield boasts decreasing rates of both violent crime and property crime. There are 833 residents per police officer in the city.
According to SafeHome, Hamilton County is clearly one of the safest places to live not only in Indiana, but in the United States as a whole. To view SafeHome’s report in full – including charts with more data – and to read the methodology used in their analysis, visit SafeHome.org/safest-cities/IN.
