Former Indiana House District 39 candidate Matt McNally thanked voters and volunteers for supporting his campaign. District 39 includes portions of Carmel and Westfield.
“My family has expanded,” McNally said. “A win was not in the cards for us this November, but as we approach Thanksgiving, and I reflect on the last four months of our campaign, I can’t help but feel a tremendous sense of gratitude, not just for the experience, but for the countless volunteers, supporters and citizens who inspire me daily.”
McNally, an airline pilot and former military serviceman, rarely gets to spend holidays with his family here in Indiana but spent every spare moment of this campaign season reaching 30,000 homes in the district and aiming to have quality conversations with Hoosiers.
“He understood the assignment!” Campaign Manager Megan Ruddie said. “If he was not working, he had his walking shoes laced up, literature in hand, knocking on doors, and wouldn’t return until the sun went down. Then, it was time to reach voters by phone.”
McNally highlighted the fact that Hoosiers, regardless of their political persuasions, have a great deal in common.
“I am thankful for all those who welcomed me into their homes, sat with me on their porches, or engaged in heartfelt discussions in their doorways and driveways,” McNally said. “I am especially appreciative of those who may not have agreed with me politically, but heard me out, and allowed me to do the same. We walked away with mutual respect for one another, even when we did not agree on how to fix the issues that matter to Hoosiers. Those are the most important experiences I encountered and are representative of my continued belief that we as neighbors, have much more in common than we have differences.”
McNally concluded, “There’s no doubt that this year, there’s a special seat at my Thanksgiving table for the citizens of District 39, and my hope is that they know that.”
