Girls basketball roundup: ‘Rocks win fifth straight

Westfield kept its win streak rolling Tuesday night, as the Shamrocks took care of Western Boone 66-38 in an away game.
This was the fifth straight victory for Westfield, who put the game away early by jumping out to a 27-4 lead after the first quarter. The ‘Rocks then led by around that margin for the remaining three quarters, holding a 41-14 advantage at halftime.
Sophia Kreag threw in three 3-pointers on her way to 18 points, with Megan Rops adding 10 points. Kreag also had a nice night on the boards with eight rebounds, in addition to two blocked shots. Jade Shipley handed out four assists.
Westfield is now 6-1 for the season. The Shamrocks will go back on the road Saturday afternoon, traveling to Franklin Central for a 1:30 p.m. game.

HSE drops first game

Hamilton Southeastern dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday, falling at Brownsburg 53-45 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-12 lead after the first quarter and were up 31-23 at halftime.
Malea Jackson led the Class 4A No. 4 Royals with 16 points, including five 3-pointers. Sydney Parrish was next with 14 points, also corralling six rebounds and making four steals. Molly Walton dished out seven assists, with Tayah Irvin grabbing five rebounds and handing out four assists.
Southeastern returns home on Friday for an afternoon game with 4A No. 1 Carmel. Tipoff is 2:30 p.m.
UHS starts fast, beat Brebeuf
University scored the first 22 points of the game and cruised to a 60-19 win over Brebeuf Jesuit in girls basketball action Tuesday night at The U Center.
Natalie Nickless and Lindsey Syrek had 19 points each to lead the Trailblazers while Lily Snyder added 14.
University jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game and held Brebeuf off the scoreboard until four seconds remained in the period.  After taking a 32-10 halftime lead, the Blazers scored the first 11 points of the third quarter.
University improves to 5-1 on the season.  The Trailblazers are next in action Tuesday night when they travel to Brownsburg to take on undefeated Bethesda Christian in an early season showdown of two teams that could meet four times this season.  Both teams are in Sectional 58, both play in the Monrovia Holiday tournament and could meet in the Pioneer Conference crossover games in mid-January.
