Westfield Washington Public Library celebrating 120th birthday

Five themed days set to mark occasion

The Westfield Washington Public Library (WWPL) will celebrate its 120th birthday on Friday, April 15. In celebration of the event, the library will host five themed days starting Monday, April 11.

The week will kick off with Monday Memories. A video of memories from past and present library employees and board members will be streamed at the library throughout the day. The library will also introduce a set of leather-bound journals that residents can add their personal memories of the library and the City of Westfield to for all residents to enjoy.

April 12 will be hailed Tuesday Time Capsule. The library will unveil a living time capsule to be displayed in the library for all to enjoy. Residents were asked to submit a photograph, document, or small object to be considered for placement in the time capsule. Library staff will notify the applicants of the chosen submissions by Friday, April 8.

April 13 will feature a Wednesday Walkabout. Library patrons will be encouraged to follow a set of clues that will lead them on a walk from the current library to its past and future locations. Participants will be encouraged to take selfies at each stop and submit them through a QR code at the final stop to be entered into one of two raffle drawings – one for adults and another for kids. Entries can be submitted through Saturday, April 16.

April 14 will feature Thursday Thanks. Library patrons will be encouraged to write thank you notes to library staff. While they’re at the library they can also take part in Gratitude Yoga in the Children’s Department. And as an added benefit to the community, the library will be accepting donations on behalf of four not-for-profit agencies – Westfield Washington Schools Parent University, Indiana Diaper Bank, Blessing Bag Brigade, and Open Doors of Westfield.

Finally, the library will celebrate Festive Friday. The public is invited to attend a birthday party from 2 to 5 p.m. The afternoon will feature games, prizes, and cookies. Three winners will be announced for the Westfield Library Foundation’s book writing contest at 3 p.m. A copy of each winning book will be published and placed on the shelves of the library at a later date.
