Huskies run past Chargers

Hamilton Heights picked up a first-round victory in Class 3A Sectional 25 Friday, winning 37-23 at North Montgomery.
It’s the second win in a row for the Huskies, who will travel back to Montgomery County next Friday for the sectional semi-finals. Heights will play Southmont.
The Huskies were involved in a tug-of-war with the Chargers in the first half, but put away the game in the third quarter by scoring 24 points.
“We really executed at a pretty high level there in the second half,” said Heights coach Mitch Street.
Michael Cross got Heights on the board with an interception return touchdown midway through the first quarter, then Blake Webel took the ball in from the one-yard line late in the second period. In that crucial third quarter, DeShawn King scored twice, from 17 and 18 yards respectively, with Webel jogging a ball in from the five-yard line midway through the period.
“I’m really proud of those guys,” said Street. Both are sophomores, and Street calls them the Huskies’ “1A and 1B” running backs.
“They really complement each other really well,” said Street. “DeShawn’s a first-year running back. We moved him there this year.”
Webel finished the game with 126 yards on 17 carries, while King rushed nine times for 90 yards. Carter Compassi was the Huskies’ main quarterback, completing 10 of 17 attempts for 256 yards in a solid night. Camron Knott had four catches for 100 yards.
Owen Powell made four extra point kicks, and booted a 27-yard field goal with 10 seconds left in the third quarter.
Heights is now 3-7 for the season.
