UHS girls cruise past Bethesda Christian

University’s girls picked up their fourth straight win Monday night with a 67-45 win over previously undefeated Bethesda Christian.
Senior Patty Chikamba had 22 points to lead University’s scoring as the Trailblazers had four players in double figures. Juniors Payton Seay (17 points) and Kelsey DuBois (11 points) also reached double figures while freshman Taylor Seay had 10. Chikamba stuffed the stat sheets with six rebounds and team highs of seven assists and six steals. Payton Seay pulled down 10 rebounds and DuBois gathered six rebounds.
The team traded baskets in the early going until a 12-0 spurt over two minutes put the Blazers in front 16-4. Payton Seay put University on top for good at 6-4 scoring off a Chikamba steal. DuBois scored off an assist from Jordan Patterson and Chikamba had a steal and layin for a 10-4 lead. Back-to-back three pointers from Payton Seay (following a Patterson steal) and Chikamba put University up 16-4 with 4:43 left in the first quarter and forced a Bethesda Christian timeout.
The Patriots started to crawl back in the game, cutting the deficit to 22-17 after the first quarter. Bethesda Christian eventually got within 3 at 24-21 before baskets by Taylor Seay, Chikamba and Payton Seay helped put University up 31-23 with 3 minutes to go in the quarter. The Blazers led 36-26 at halftime.
The Trailblazers went on a 14-3 run in the first half of third quarter to take a 50-29 lead. Chikamba had University’s first five points of the quarter before a rebound basket and three-pointer by Payton Seay. Taylor Seay and DuBois had buckets to close out the run. University led 55-35 after the third quarter.
The Patriots had one last run, scoring the first five points of the fourth quarter before Payton Seay foul shots and an old-fashioned three-point play from DuBois started a 10-0 run that removed any doubt.
University is now 6-2 on the season while Bethesda Christian is 4-1.
University has a pair of PAAC North road games scheduled this weekend, travelling to Ball Memorial Gym on Friday to take on Muncie Burris then playing Liberty Christian on Saturday as part of a girl boy doubleheader.
