‘Rocks wrestling falls to nationally-ranked Bulldogs

The Westfield wrestling team, ranked No. 16 in the state, dropped a dual meet to Brownsburg, ranked No. 17 in the nation, 52-15 on Wednesday.
The Shamrocks had four match victories. Braxton Vest, rated No. 5 at 120-pounds, picked up a 6-0 decision. Jason Rooney, wrestling up a weight class, took the 170-pound bout in a 7-5 sudden-victory decision.
Austin McClure was up next at 182, and he won his match by fall. Charlie Woodward then took the 220-pound match with a big comeback victory; trailing by three points with 30 seconds left, he found a reversal, then scored three near-fall points to win 7-5.
In the 285-pound match, No. 3 Mike Platanov went up against the Bulldogs’ No. 1-ranked Leighton Jones. The match went to overtime, and Jones made a takedown with 20 seconds left to secure the 3-1 win.
Four freshmen wrestled their first varsity matches: Porter Temples at 113, Jake Saez at 126, Jonny Maynard at 132 and Eli Turner at 138.
Westfield will host the Shamrock Duals on Saturday. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.
