State Trooper returns from National Guard duty on southern border

Nine-year Indiana State Police (ISP) Veteran Phil Cooley has returned home from a 12-month military deployment.

Cooley serves as a Staff Sergeant in the Indiana National Guard and recently returned from active duty. He was deployed within the United States to the southwest border on a United States Border Patrol Assistance Mission. He has served with the Indiana National Guard for 12 years. This was his third deployment during that time.

Trooper Cooley will now return to patrol and his position with the ISP Commercial Enforcement Division, where his primary focus is school bus safety.

ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Commander Major Jon Smithers said, “We are certainly proud of Phil’s service to the Indiana National Guard and are thankful to have him home. His commitment public service and school bus safety is commendable and we are fortunate to have him among our ranks.”

Trooper Cooley currently resides in Hamilton County with his wife and two teenage sons.
