Juniors Payton Seay and Kelsey DuBois recorded double-doubles as the University girls broke a two-game losing skein with a 63-40 homecourt win over Brebeuf Jesuit Tuesday evening.
DuBois had a game-high 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while Seay grabbed a game high 13 rebounds and had 12 points. Eight of Seay’s rebounds were on the offensive end.
The teams battled back and forth in the first period with Taylor Seay’s basket with six seconds left pulling the Trailblazers even at 12. University took the lead for good when Jordan Patterson scored 25 seconds in to the second quarter. DuBois made four free throws to push the lead to 18-12. Brebeuf kept battling back and was down just 24-22 with 1:30 left in the second before two more DuBois free throws and a Patterson three-pointer but University up 29-22 at halftime.
Kamryn Washington opened the third quarter with an old fashioned three-point play and Payton Seay had a rebound basket as the Blazers opened up a 34-22 lead less than a minute in to the third quarter. Brebeuf fought back to 36-29 before baskets by DuBois and Payton Seay restored a double-digit lead that University maintained the rest of the game.
Patterson led University in assists (four) and steals (six) and contributed nine points. Patty Chikamba had six points, five steals and three assists. Washington had seven points and Taylor Seay provided eight points off the bench.
University improves to 3-2 on the season. The Trailblazers are next in action Tuesday when they host Clinton Prairie at the U Center.
