Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard accepted an invitation from the White House to attend the recent signing into law the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, a ceremony that took place on the lawn of the White House.
Mayor Brainard was among those invited after he was one of only two Republican Indiana mayors to sign a letter to Congress in July urging Representatives to come together and pass a bill that will benefit cities like Carmel, all across the nation.

The letter was sent by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, where Brainard holds a leadership position as a Trustee. Brainard has long been an advocate for compromise and bipartisanship at the local and national level, especially when it comes to issues that can directly benefit residents of Carmel, who he has served since 1996.
“When it comes to investing public money into infrastructure, we only have one opportunity to build our city the right way and we don’t want to strive for mediocre or just good; not the easiest nor cheapest,” Brainard said. “We must strive for the best when we have the opportunity to do so. That is what great cities do. We want to create the best and highest quality of life through building the most ambitious and glorious city we can build. Having the highest quality roads, city services, trails, bridges, parks and other amenities in place, will ensure quality long-term growth. Everything we do is focused on that.”
President Biden signed the bill at a ceremony at the White House lawn surrounded by members of Congress, governors and mayors from both parties, business leaders and labor leaders.
