U.S. Senator Todd Young left little doubt that he will be running for re-election next year as he addressed a Republican Fall Dinner crowd Sunday in Carmel. The first-term senator was introduced to the gathering of 300 party faithful by Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen, who welcomed “native son home” to Hamilton County.
Young grew up in Carmel and graduated from Carmel High School in 1990. His parents still reside locally. The senator, his wife and children now live in Bloomington. He defeated former Senator Evan Bayh in 2016 with substantially less name recognition and little campaign reserves.
Young’s remarks of a positive tone stressed that Americans can dictate their future thanks to “the constitutional republic we enjoy.” He said voters will be called upon next year to win back majorities in Congress which the GOP lost last year.
He warned, however, that if Democrats make gains in 2022, there will be attempts to enact more regulations, taxes and pack the Supreme Court. He said it would be fair to say the upcoming election “will be the most important of our time.”
The dinner meeting was chaired by Laura Campbell, county GOP chairwoman and Carmel City Councilmember, and Congresswoman Victoria Spartz offered brief remarks before the buffet dinner held at the 502 East Event Center.
Many local officeholders were present along with several announced candidates running in the GOP primary next spring.
