Three crashes claim two lives this past weekend

Carmel man dies in single-vehicle crash

At 7:33 a.m. Saturday, the Carmel police and fire departments responded to single-vehicle crash at the intersection of 106th Street and Ditch Road.

Based upon the preliminary investigation, it appears that a Ford truck traveling westbound at a high speed did not negotiate the intersection properly. It then crashed into the structure in the middle of the intersection. As a result of the impact, the truck rolled onto its roof and came to rest northwest of the intersection. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Paul Morse, 35, Carmel, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Carmel Fire Department assisted in extracting the victim from the vehicle and as well as providing medical aid. Both roads were blocked in all directions for several hours while the Carmel Police Accident Investigation Team worked the scene and will be investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.

Friday crash leaves Fishers man dead

The Fishers Police Department is investigating two serious crashes that occurred over the weekend.

The first occurred on Friday afternoon when an elderly person was killed and two other people were injured in an accident at the intersection of Olio Road and 131st Street.

Investigators said a 2018 Cadillac turned in front of a 2020 Acura. Both drivers, Doris Newman, 81, Fishers, and Marsha Lipe, 72, Indianapolis, were taken to the hospital. Billy Newman, 95, Fishers, was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved and did not survive.

Teenager sent to hospital

The second crash happened on Sunday afternoon when a pedestrian was hit by a car on Allisonville Road near White Oaks Drive. Police believe a 15-year-old was running across Allisonville Road right into the path of a car. Police say the driver of the car immediately stopped and cooperated with police. The teenager was taken to a hospital.
