Greyhounds drop opener

Carmel opened its season at Homestead on Saturday afternoon, and the Class 4A No. 7 Greyhounds fell to the 4A No. 8 Spartans 75-43.
Homestead led 20-11 after the first quarter. Carmel cut into that lead slightly by halftime, trailing 32-25 at the break. But the Spartans outscored the ‘Hounds 43-18 in the second half.
Mackenzie Thomas led Carmel with 13 points and five rebounds. Hannah Lach made two 3-pointers and Laura Valiente dished out six assists.
The Greyhounds return to Fort Wayne next Saturday to play at Carroll.
