The University girls opened their season Tuesday night with a 55-13 win over Indianapolis Shortridge at The U Center.
Kelsey DuBois led the Trailblazers with 15 points and seven rebounds. Patty Chikamba had nine points and six steals while Kamryn Washington seven points, six steals and four assists.
University was in control throughout the game, scoring the first 14 points before Shortridge got its first points with 3:11 remaining. After Shortridge made the score 14-6, the Trailblazers scored the next 22 points to lead 36-6 late in the second quarter.
A basket by Abby Hannon with 5:50 to go in the third quarter made the score 43-8 and instituted a running clock for the rest of the game per the new IHSAA mercy rule.
All 12 Trailblazers who dressed saw extensive action and nine scored during the contest.
University is next in action Saturday evening when they travel to Guerin Catholic in an all-county matchup.
