Carmel rolled to its third consecutive win on Friday, beating North Central 45-0 as the Class 6A No. 5 Greyhounds celebrated Homecoming at Carmel Stadium with a Metropolitan Conference win.
The ‘Hounds took care of business in the first quarter, scoring 21 points. Desmond Duffy scored two touchdowns starting with a 16-yard reception from Zachary Osborne midway through the period that got Carmel on the board. Then with under two minutes left in the quarter, Duffy took a 46-yard pass from Osborne into the end zone. In between, Ethan Hall punched the ball in from the one-yard line.
In the second quarter, the Greyhounds added another 17 points. Duffy and Osborne connected for their third touchdown pass of the night, a 24-yard throw. Ben Sponsler kicked the extra point, as he did for all of the first-quarter scores, then minutes later nailed a 21-yard field goal.
Osborne threw one more touchdown reception with 25 seconds left in the half. That one was an 11-yard toss to Reese Bellin. Sponsler kicked the extra point, making him 5-of-5 for the night.
The second half was played under a running clock. Carmel got one more touchdown early in the fourth quarter when Lleyton Lukowski ran the ball in from the three. Joshua Placzek made the extra point.
Osborne finished the game with 166 yards passing, while Bellin led the receptions with five. Nick Beidl was Carmel’s leading rusher with 33 yards.
The Greyhounds are 3-1 in MIC play and 5-1 overall. Carmel travels to Ben Davis next Friday.
