Hamilton County Historian David Heighway’s new book, Hidden History of Hamilton County, Indiana, is an interesting tour of local lore from before the founding of the county. For those who think this will be a collection of dates and dry facts, you could not be more wrong.
Did you know in 1822 a giant wave of ravenous squirrels descended on Central Indiana to feast on crops, to the shock and dismay of new settlers?
Heighway leads the reader through tales of land grabs, betrayals, hauntings and humor in this hidden history of Hamilton County.
You can meet Heighway and get a signed copy of his book at Schwartz’s Bait and Tackle, 118 Cicero Road, Noblesville, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26.
Learn about the plague of squirrels, the sad story of Noblesville’s first settler, Pete Smith, and the mysterious things seen at the bait shop’s location in years gone by.
Lori Schwartz told The Reporter the public can purchase copies of Heighway’s book for $21.99 next Sunday, or bring a copy you may already own, and have it signed by the author.
Steve and Lori Schwartz, who are hosting this event, will also provide free popcorn and bottled water to attendees.
David, Enjoyed your recent work on Hidden History. Do you have any information on Indian tree trail markers?
