A showdown between the Nos. 1 and 2 boys soccer teams in Indiana ended in a scoreless draw.
Class 3A No. 1 Noblesville and 3A No. 2 Fishers played a highly-anticipated Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Tuesday at the Tigers’ field. Both teams had several scoring chances, with the Millers making six shots on goal and Fishers getting five shots on goal.
Both goalkeepers – Noblesville’s Gabe Ingle and the Tigers’ Tyler March – played well and had support from their respective back lines.
The Millers are 1-0-1 in conference play and 6-0-1 overall, and will host 2A No. 1 Guerin Catholic on Thursday. Fishers is 2-0-1 in the HCC and 4-0-1 overall, and plays at Hamilton Southeastern next Tuesday (Sept. 7).
Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 4 in 3A, kept itself unbeaten in HCC play by defeating Avon 2-1 in a Tuesday away game.
The Royals scored both of their goals in the second half. Senior Yusuf Awad and junior Noah Link each got one goal, with junior Logan Wright making one assist.
Southeastern is 3-0 in the conference and 5-0-1 overall, and hosts Brebeuf Jesuit on Saturday.
Carmel, ranked No. 9 in 3A, played to a 2-2 tie with Brebeuf Jesuit in a Tuesday game at Murray Stadium.
Seniors Baenan Mckeown and Andrew Caito each scored one goal for the Greyhounds, while junior Braeden Thomson made one assist.
“I thought we possessed and moved the ball well, creating several good opportunities,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “We will continue to work on our shape and challenging for balls in the air.”
The Greyhounds are 2-2-1 and host Lawrence North next Tuesday in a Metropolitan Conference game.
Hamilton Heights picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday, beating Anderson 7-0.
Junior Caleb Haymaker and sophomore Michael Colvin both scored two goals for the Huskies, with senior Lance Jones, sophomore Phoenix Vondersaar and junior Mathew Rezsonya all getting one goal. Five different players dished out one assist: Senior Hunter Toll, Vondersaar, junior Colin Kuhn, Colvin and sophomore Samuel Harpham.
Heights is 1-4 and plays at Kokomo on Thursday.
