Girls soccer: ‘Hounds improve to 2-0 in MIC

The Carmel girls soccer team picked up a second Metropolitan Conference win on Monday, beating Ben Davis 4-0.
Emily Roper scored two goals for the Class 3A No. 2 Greyhounds. Saliyah Brady had one goal and one assist. Megan Hamm added a goal, while Lila Simmons and Tammy Smith each had one assist. Aubree Empie and Bethany Ducat combined for the shutout.
Carmel coach Frank Dixon said the coaching staff is happy with the growth the team has shown in the nine-day period since the first game.
“We feel the players are beginning to get a good feel for what their roles are on the team and look forward to some team development at training this week,” said Dixon.
Carmel is 2-0 in MIC play and 3-0-1 overall. The Greyhounds host the Carmel Invitational on Saturday, playing Avon at 9 a.m. and 3A No. 13 Fishers at 6:45 p.m.

Westfield, ranked No. 20 in 3A, sailed past Northwestern 7-1 in a Monday game.
Madison Niehaus scored two goals for the Shamrocks, followed by one goal each from Ava Smith, Kylie Haines, Amiah Sprunger and Kate Malin. There was also an “own goal” for Northwestern.
The Shamrocks are 2-1-1 and play at Franklin Central tonight in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

University beat Shortridge 2-1 Monday to win its Pioneer Conference opener.
The Trailblazers are 2-2 overall and play Thursday at Scecina.
