Tennis: Royals upset Panthers, follow with HCC win

The Hamilton Southeastern boys tennis team scored two huge wins during the early part of the week.
On Monday, the No. 6-ranked Royals upset No. 2 North Central 4-1. Southeastern won the Nos. 2 and 3 singles matches easily, with No. 2 Paul Schneider cruising 6-0, 6-1 and No. 3 Abhi Chaddha getting a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
The No. 1 singles match was a tight one, with the Panthers’ Alex Antonopoulos edging out HSE’s Rohan Golla, 6-0, 2-6, 7-5. The Royals clinched the victory when No. 1 doubles Aiden De Witt and Andrew Spirrison came from behind to win their match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Southeastern’s No. 2 doubles team, Rodrigo Davila and Nolan Houseman, also got a comeback win, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
“This is a huge win for the Royals and is the first time we have beaten North Central in over 10 years,” said Southeastern coach Kirk Webber. “This team really showed some resilience and toughness tonight, and it just goes to show what kind of potential this team has.”
The Royals kept the momentum going on Tuesday with a 4-1 Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory over No. 15 Zionsville. Southeastern again got quick wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, as Schneider was victorious again by a 6-0, 6-1 score, and Chaddha breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 win.
De Witt and Spirrison won the No. 1 doubles match 6-4, 6-2, and Houseman and Davila took care of No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 7-6 (7).
The Royals are 2-0 in conference play and 3-1 overall, and play another HCC match Thursday at Franklin Central.

Carmel, ranked No. 1, sailed past Lawrence North 5-0 in the Greyhounds’ Senior Night match Tuesday at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center.
Noah Carroll picked up his first-ever varsity win, teaming with Broc Fletcher to win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Westfield dropped an HCC match to No. 14 Brownsburg 4-1 on Tuesday.
The Shamrocks host No. 12 Brebeuf Jesuit on Thursday.
