Rodney L. McElfresh

August 15, 1937 – August 17, 2021

Rodney L. McElfresh, 84, Indianapolis, formerly of Carmel, passed away on August 17, 2021. He was born on August 15, 1937 in Indianapolis, son of Lawrence and Mildred (Hamilton) McElfresh.

Rodney was a 1955 graduate of Manual High School. He was coach for his son Jeff’s baseball and basketball teams for a number of years. Rodney worked as an Agent with Harbor House Gordon Insurance from 1998 to 2004, and also Farm Bureau Insurance for several years. He was an active member of the Carmel Jaycees in the club’s early years. He enjoyed learning and studying history. While living in Florida, he was involved with the Florida Civil War Roundtable, as well as volunteering at the Nature Center in Fort Myers.

In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his daughter, Evelyn Hoffmann, in 2012.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Ellen (Bowers) McElfresh; son, Jeff (Wendy) McElfresh; grandchildren, Joseph (Leia) Dawson, Jena McElfresh, Emily Dawson, Adam McElfresh, and Eric Hoffmann; great-grandchildren, Kailey, Anna, Quinton, Blaine, and Edwin Dawson; and sister, Betty (Neil) Bloomfield.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Bussell Family Funerals, 1621 E. Greyhound Pass, Carmel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Rodney be directed to St. Vincent Hospice (Compassus), 8450 N. Payne Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
