Girls golf: Carmel wins close dual with HSE

The Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern girls golf teams got together Tuesday at Prairie View Golf Club for a ninie-hole dual meet.
The No. 2-ranked Greyhounds got a close win, edging out the No. 6 Royals 159-160. Michaela Headlee led Carmel with a score of 38. Ava Hedrick was next with a 39. Other Greyhounds scores were Claire Swathwood 41, Kamryn Williams 41, Ava Nguyen 43 and Sophie Mock 51.
Southeastern’s Yanah Ralston was the meet medalist with a 35. Marissa Spreitzer was next with a 38, followed by Cora Zink 41, Ella Bui 46, Makenna Watson 46 and Lauren Stewart 50.
‘ROCKS RANKED NO. 1
After winning four out of five tournaments last week, including the State Preview meet, Westfield moved up to No. 1 in the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association’s Week 1 girls golf poll that came out on Sunday.
The Shamrocks, who were No. 2 in the pre-season poll, received all six first-place votes. Carmel also advanced in the rankings, moving up from No. 3 to No. 2.
Southeastern is tied at sixth in the poll, with Noblesville ranked No. 9. University made a big debut in the rankings, coming in at No. 14. Guerin Catholic, which won its first three tournaments of the season last week, received Honorable Mention.
