Damond Avery Coates

July 26, 1972 – July 26, 2021

Damond Avery Coates, youngest child of the late Charles and Rosia (Baynes) Coates, was born on July 26, 1972, in Baltimore, Md. His angels took him home on July 26, 2021.

Damond was known by many different names throughout his lifetime. Big Avery, Avery, Fats, Baltimore, Boss Man are just a few. No matter which name you knew him by, to know him was to love him.

Damond lost his mother at an early age and was surrounded by angels ever since. Whether in human or spiritual form, his angels helped guide him through a difficult childhood. He felt their presence his entire life. Relationships with his godmother, Tobie, and his lifelong best friend Ty Howard’s mother, Theresa, gave him strength, love, and support. His many aunts, uncles and cousins were a blessed foundation in his life.

On September 2, 1993, Damond met the girl of his dreams, Alisa Lynn Rose Coates, his daughter. His world was changed forever, and he worked very hard to be the best dad he could be.

Damond was larger than life. His laugh was contagious, and he had the most beautiful smile. He truly never knew a stranger, and his personality filled any room he was in. As a truck driver for more than 20 years, he traveled near and far and found ways to enjoy every place where he was. Damond was a human GPS and was always just a phone call away. He was the best person to talk to – whether it be funny stories, sports, or life advice. He was a kind soul despite his strong exterior. Damond, or pops, loved his family more than anything – even Chinese food and crabs. He would do anything for his children and grandchildren including his fur babies. Damond is going to be missed by every person who has ever known him. But like a true leo, his legacy will forever reign on.

Damond leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Alisa Coates; granddaughter, Aniyah Richardson; fiancée, Elizabeth Paquette; and their combined families, Cierra (Zach) Stewart, Lucas (Amber) Spink, Jacob Spink, Donna (Eric) Langlois, and Jessica (Jose) Alfaro; grandchildren, Landin, Bentley, Isabella, Olivia, Afton, Kylie, and Kaysen; brother, Michael Coates; sister, Terese Thompson; life-long best friend, Ty Howard; and best friend, Wayne Bell.

A Family Celebration of Life gathering will take place at a later date.

Bussell Family Funerals is privileged to assist the family with arrangements.
