Attention Sheridan community members: Mark your calendar for two important meetings on Thursday, Aug. 5.
The first is the Hamilton County Bicentennial Committee meeting, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. Hamilton County will be celebrating its 200th birthday in 2023 and each township will be highlighted for a one-month period. Adams Township has been given the month of May, and township residents need to come up with some celebratory events. Ron Stone is the township coordinator and during this meeting he wants to outline early plans and gather your thoughts as to what the township can do to celebrate this event.
The second community meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be devoted to the rescue and restoration of the old Sheridan Monon Depot. Yes, Sheridan did have a railroad that came through town and provided Sheridan with passenger and freight service multiple times a day. Steve Martin, vice president of the Sheridan Historical Society, along with other Society members will provide historical information about the depot and talk about plans to save the structure and relocate it back into Sheridan. A presentation with lots of pictures will accompany this program and help explain what the Society is planning to do and how hopefully it can get accomplished.
If you are interested in further information about either of these ventures, and especially if you would like to volunteer to be a part of Sheridan’s history over the next two years, please plan to attend. Both programs will last about an hour, and after the programs there will be plenty of time for questions and explanations.
The two back-to-back programs will be presented in the Jeanne Cornell Theater in the Stephenson Cultural Center at the new Sheridan Historical Society Museum, located at 315 S. Main St. Please feel free to bring your own snacks and refreshments. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
For further information, please call Steve Martin at (765) 513-7457 or email him at shmartin1@comcast.net, or drop by the museum any Tuesday or Friday between 1 and 4 p.m.
