Willadene (Greer) Short

February 19, 1933 – July 16, 2021

Willadene (Greer) Short, 88, Kirklin, was called to her heavenly home while surrounded by her loving family on Friday, July 16, 2021. She was born on February 19, 1933, to the late Robert and Edna (Murray) Greer in Winchester, Ky.

Willadene worked for Briggs in Flora, Ind., for 28 years before retiring in 1998; she handled all quality control for the company. She was a woman of faith and would share the word of God to everyone. She was a member of the Hedrick Assembly of God in Hedrick, Ind., and later when she moved to Kirklin, she began attending Kirklin Assembly of God. She looked forward to attending Bible study and she would sometimes bring along new people.

Willadene would collect change and fill containers with change, and when it was time to turn the change in, she would always try to guess how much she had collected. She liked working her puzzles and playing computer games, but she looked forward and enjoyed playing Nintendo games with her three youngest grandchildren. What they did not know was she would warm up before they got there.

Willadene taught her family a lot of values that could be passed down through generations of her family, but the one value that was most important to her that she passed on to her family was her faith in Jesus Christ.

She leaves behind her beautiful family of six children, Edna Mae Halsema, Linden, Ind., Gary Allen Short, Camden, Ind., Sharon Lynn Short, Camden, Ind., Janie Leann (John Rieken) Snodgrass, Flora, Ind., Janet K. (Jerry) Barker, Sheridan, and Judy (Gary) Owens, Kirklin. She was a loving grandmother to her 21 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 51 great-grandchildren, and a proud great-great-grandmother to eight. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Pauline Phelps and Rose Long; along with her three brothers, Bobby Greer, Louis Greer, and George Greer.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Allen Short. The two of them were married on August 5, 1949, and they spent 49 years at each other side until his passing on November 17, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, John Wayne Rieken; her two great-granddaughters, Gabrielle Short and Mallory Weaver; her brother, Carl Greer; a sister, Janie Wirth; daughter-in-law, Donna Short; and son-in-law, Harry Halsema.

Willadene’s services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at North Fields Church, 1478 State Road 38, Sheridan, where family and friends are invited to gather from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow the service at Burlington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SouthernCare Hospice, 2312 S. Dixon Road, Suite 200, Kokomo, IN 46902; Freedom Church, 1361 Christian Ave., Noblesville, IN 46060; or Christ Tabernacle, 1602 W. 226th St., Sheridan, IN 46069.
