The Hamilton Heights athletic programs had consistently solid results all throughout the school year whenever they took on teams from the Hoosier Conference.
Now that the school year is finished, the Huskies are getting some recognition. The Heights girls finished first in the conference girls standings, while the boys placed second. Each school receives points for its placing in a conference sport (10 for boys, nine for girls), with first place scoring 10 points and second place scoring nine, on down to 10th place receiving one point.
The Huskies girls came out on top of a close three-school race for first place. Heights finished with 67 points, West Lafayette scored 65 and Northwestern scored 63.
While the Red Devils won conference championships in three events (cross country, tennis and track), the Huskies placed in the top two in five sports, and two more fourth-place finishes. Heights won the soccer conference title, and was runner-up in basketball, swimming, track and volleyball. The Huskies’ fourth-place results were in cross country and golf.
The Heights boys scored 75 points for second place, edging out third-place Western by one; the Panthers totaled 74 points. West Lafayette finished first with 87 points, winning five conference championships (football, soccer, swimming, tennis and track).
While the Huskies didn’t have any first-place finishes, they did place at least fifth in all 10 sports, the only school to do so. Heights had runner-up finishes in baseball, football and wrestling, then took third in basketball and soccer. The Huskies’ cross country and track teams both placed fourth, while golf, swimming and tennis all were fifth.
