The fourth annual Scarecrow Contest hosted by Noblesville Main Street is coming soon. Entries will be accepted starting Monday, Sept. 25. The contest is open to all ages, individuals, families, clubs, groups and businesses. There is no cost to enter. Entry forms are available online and at all Noblesville Main Street events, including the Farmers Market.
“This feature in our downtown has really drawn interest from the public since starting in 2014,” said Chris Owens, CEO of Noblesville Main Street. “We are pleased at the early interest and look forward to the creativity from our community that will be displayed around the courthouse square the entire month of October.”
Deadline
Scarecrow entries must be dropped off at Noblesville Main Street, 839 Conner St., no later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. Entries will be displayed on downtown Noblesville light poles from Sept. 29 through Oct. 31. Winners will be announced on Facebook after the First Friday Fall Festival event on Friday, Oct. 6. Scarecrows will be discarded after they are removed from the light poles on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Construction
Scarecrows must be durable and able to stand up to sun, wind and rain. Use care in choosing your materials. Fake straw is recommended. All decorations must be firmly attached to your scarecrow. Minimum height is four feet and maximum height is six feet. Each scarecrow must have a vertical wood support for the body. All scarecrows will be displayed vertically on the light poles. Noblesville Main Street will furnish a basic frame, which can be picked up at the Noblesville Main Street office between noon and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday between starting Sept. 25.
Prizes
First place prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Adult (15 and over), Youth (14 and under), Business, Most Hipstoric, Best Community Pride and People’s Choice ($1 = one vote at the Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 6).
