Lacrosse state championship day

TOP LEFT: The Carmel girls lacrosse team made it three state championships in a row on Saturday, as the Greyhounds beat Hamilton Southeastern 13-8 in the Class 2A state finals at Warren Central. Julia Cherubini scored five goals for Carmel, while Hannah Kim scored four. Maddie McGarty, Anna Dumke, Sophia Hanna and Pey Henney all scored one goal each.
Greyhounds coach Josh Miller said his team played “fantastic.”
“We played really good defense,” said Miller. That’s been a trademark of ours the whole season. We were averaging 5.75 goals per game coming into Thursday night (semi-finals). We held strong.”

BOTTOM: The Guerin Catholic boys lacrosse team won the school’s first-ever state championship in that sport Saturday at Hamilton Southeastern. The Golden Eagles claimed the Class 1A state title with a 6-5 victory over South Bend St. Joseph.
