The Westfield boys tennis team got a huge Senior Night victory on Monday, upsetting No. 24-ranked Lapel 3-2.
Quentin Markle won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, then the No. 2 doubles team of Connor Housefield and Joe Day won 6-2, 7-6. The match of the night went to the No. 1 doubles team of Carson Maris and Nicholas Mabe as they clinched the win for the Shamrocks winning 6-4 in the third set.
“It was a great team win,” said Westfield coach Tony Peters.
The junior varsity Shamrocks won their match 10-2. Seniors Jack Castanias, Riku Kawakami, and Noah Ditzler were all victorious.
Hamilton Heights picked up a Monday win at Tipton, 4-1.
The Hochstedler brothers (Hawkins and Hudson) both won 6-0, 6-0 matches at Nos. 1 and 2 singles respectively. Adam Gross made it a singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position. JP Etchison and Josh Russell won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
“We were pleased tonight to have our team back together again,” said Huskies coach Cameron Scott. “Because of our conference tournament format, these guys had been split up for the better part of a week. There was definitely some added energy having everyone back together.”
Heights is now 8-5 for the season.
