The Guerin Catholic boys golf team won the Woodland Invitational on Wednesday, setting a new record in the process.
The No. 1-ranked Golden Eagles scored a 281, which is a new school record for an 18-hole event. Guerin accomplished this over a loaded field: Carmel was the runner-up with a 297, followed by Westfield 306 and Brebeuf Jesuit 326.
The Golden Eagles’ Connor McNeely was the meet medalist with a 67. GC’s Leo Wessel and the Shamrocks’ Alec Cesare tied for second place with 69 each. Guerin Catholic’s Jacob Modleski took third with a 70. Other Golden Eagles scores were Andrew White 75 and Christian Hein 82.
The Greyhounds were led by Sam Booth’s 73, while Shoji Fujita and Owen Sander both scored 74s. Joe Armfield carded 76 and Patrick Michael had a 77. JD Wrightsman, playing as an individual, scored 82.
Other Westfield scores were Hunter Cook 76, Nolan Hall 79, Cam Kooi 82 and Ryan Wilkes 89.
Guerin Catholic also won a three-team junior varsity match Wednesday at Pebble Brook.
The Golden Eagles scored 154 to Carmel’s 160 and Bishop Chatard’s 181. Scotty Smith led GC with a 37, followed by Ben Burgan 38, Luke Scariano 39, Jack Sciaudone 40 and Michael Peterson 43.
The Greyhounds’ Mason Price was the meet medalist with a 36.
Hamilton Heights competed in two three-team meets this week.
On Tuesday, the Huskies played at Tipton Municipal Golf Course. Heights finished second by scoring a 176; the Blue Devils won with a 176 and Lapel was third with 183.
Ethan Millsaps carded a season-best 42 to lead the Huskies. Other scores were Vinnie Rowland 44, Garrett James 45 and Nathan Cox 45.
Heights returned to Bear Slide on Wednesday to host Western and Northwestern. The Huskies won with a 183, followed by Western’s 195 and Northwestern’s 209. James and Cox were Heights’ low men; each scored 44. Rowland carded 47 and Lance Jones scored 48.
University placed third at the Pioneer Conference tournament on Saturday at Hillview Country Club.
The Trailblazers totaled a team score of 424. Ben Ewer led University with an 89, followed by Andrew Dickerson with a 103. Dickerson also made a birdie, his third in his last three competitions.
In a Tuesday dual meet, the ‘Blazers fell to Bethesda Christian 197-211. Ewer led University with a 43, followed by Dickerson with a 47.
