Cross country: County teams race well at Flashrock Invite

Hamilton County cross country runners had another successful race at the Riverview Health Flashrock Invitational, which took place Saturday at Northview Church in Carmel.
In the boys race, Hamilton Southeastern’s Gabe Fendel ran away with first place, cruising to the finish line in 15:05.88. As a team, the Royals placed sixth.
Westfield had the highest county placing for the boys teams, finishing in fourth with 148 points. Nick Leahy took seventh individually. Guerin Catholic’s Quinn Gallagher had another solid race, taking third.
Noblesville was led by Zachary Freeman, who placed 17th. Chris LaPlante paced Fishers’ runners by taking 75th.
In the girls race, Fishers finished second with 102 points, behind only Hinsdale Central’s 73. Debbie Shera landed in the top 10 by taking ninth place.
Southeastern placed third and had two top 10 runners: Lulu Black took fourth and Halle Hill placed eighth. Westfield’s Gabby Dilick was the highest-placing county runner, taking third and leading the Shamrocks to a fifth-place team finish.
Guerin Catholic was seventh as a team. Paige Schemanske placed 14th.

Noblesville’s girls team won the Class 1A division at the Crawford County Invitational on Saturday.
The Millers were led by sweeps in each of the class races. Sophie Reichard finished first in the sophomore race, Aubrey Swart won the junior race and Abi Little paced the senior division. Isabella Sharples-Gordon finished third among the freshmen runners.

Carmel competed in the Trinity Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville on Saturday.
The Greyhounds boys won the Seeded race with 70 points. Top seven runners were Colin Murphy (fourth, 15:34.30), Keelan Grant (seventh, 15:43.80), Ben Miller (13th, 15:50.40), Trey Harris (20th, 16:00.40), Thomas Gastineau (34th, 16:12.50), Will Murphy (42nd, 16:22.80) and Ben Johnson (55th, 16:32.80).
The Carmel girls were second with 142 points. Phoebe Bates placed third in a time of 18:04.60. Other Greyhound top seven runners were Maddie Dalton (10th, 18:33.40), Lindsey Roper (37th, 19:25.70), Sydney Haines (47th, 19:36.80), Lily McAndrews (54th, 19:40.40), Izza Khurram (71st, 19:57.40) and Anna Morozov (69th, 20:01.10).
