Westfield cruised past Scecina 11-4 Friday in its Senior Night game.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning; Reghan Oland scored for the Shamrocks when Avery Parker doubled her home. The Crusaders added two runs in the top of the third inning, but Westfield answered in a big way, rolling in nine runs in the bottom of the inning.
Oland got on base with a triple, then scored on Brooklyn Carey’s center field hit. Parker batted Carey home, then was later singled in by Lilah Denton. Mya Hughes came in to run for Denton, and she scored on a single by Sami Stenger.
Natalie Deck got the next RBI when she batted in Abby Stump, who had earlier got on base with a double. Deck and Stenger both got home when Maggie Roh reached on error. By now the ‘Rocks had batted around, and Oland was back up at the plate. She singled in Roh, then Carey batted in Oland with another center field hit.
Carey scored another run in the sixth inning, getting home on Denton’s sacrifice fly. Oland, Carey and Parker all were 3-for-4 at the plate. Denton got the pitching win.
Westfield coach Brian Revercomb said he wanted to honor the seniors who didn’t get to have their Senior Night game last year.
“I thought they went out, they did a lot of things really well, played well, had a great time together. These kids have been together for 10 years, so it’s nice just to give them a night to honor them and play the game they love, so it was a lot of fun.”
The Shamrocks are 6-8 and host Lawrence North on Monday.
