Baseball: ‘Hounds get MIC victory, Sheridan cruises

The Carmel baseball team won an away Metropolitan Conference game on Wednesday, sailing past Lawrence Central 9-4.
The Class 4A No. 7 Greyhounds started off strong with three runs in the top of the first inning. Jackson Micheels singled in Cody Kantz for the first run, then JD Rogers, who had got on base with a double, scored on an error. Micheels was sent home by Griffin Wolf’s sacrifice fly.
Carmel added two more runs in both the second and third innings. In the second inning, Nick Mitchell batted in Alex Richter and Daniel Cunningham got home on a wild pitch. The third inning saw Cunningham score on Nathan MacLaren’s sacrifice fly, then Mitchell hit a solo home run.
Mitchell would score in the sixth inning on a wild pitch and Cunningham finished things up in the seventh inning by batting home Connor Gioia. Mitchell was 3-for-4 at the plate, batting in two runs and scoring twice.
Noah Bradbury went five innings for the win, striking out eight and allowing only two hits.
Carmel is 12-1-1 and hosts Ben Davis Saturday in a MIC doubleheader at Hartman Field.

Sheridan sailed past Traders Point Christian 19-3 in a five-inning game Wednesday at the Blackhawks’ field.
Sheridan scored nine runs in the first inning, starting with a three-run, inside-the-park home run by Cameron Hovey. Cole Bales led off the third inning with a solo homer. Both Hovey and Bales finished the game with four RBIs, and Bales scored three runs. Hovey was 3-for-3 at the plate.
Evan Grinstead also scored three runs, while Bales, Collin McNair and Corbin Murray all hit a double. Gavin Reners batted in two runs, with Murray, Hovey, McNair and Ty Macy scoring two. Hovey pitched four innings for the win, striking out four.
The Blackhawks are 5-6 and play Saturday morning at Taylor.
