Noblesville won a close game over host Fishers Thursday 3-2 in the opener of a two-game Hoosier Crossroads Conference series between the two teams.
The Tigers scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Dom Oliverio reached on an error, then was scored by a Tate Warner base hit into left field.
The Millers took the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning by scoring all three of their runs. Kolbi Kazmierski and Drew Niswonger both scored on an error, then Mason Bohland singled home Dean White.
Fishers cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning when JP Preston drew a bases-loaded walk with one out, which sent Gavin Kuzniewski home. But Jared Crandall threw a strikeout and a groundout ended the inning. The Tigers’ Jack Brown opened the seventh inning with a single, but Crandall struck out two and White caught a center field fly out to finish the game.
Ethan Leslie got the win, throwing five and a third innings and striking out seven. Crandall earned the save, allowing just one hit.
Brown went 3-for-4 at the plate for Fishers. Tate Warner pitched a complete game, tossing 10 strikeouts and allowing only three hits.
The Millers are 2-1 in HCC play and 3-5 overall, while the Tigers are 1-2 in the conference and 4-5 overall. The two teams will finish the series at 7 p.m. tonight at Noblesville’s Don Dunker Field.
