The Hamilton Heights baseball team scored a huge Hoosier Conference victory on Wednesday, as the Huskies beat Class 3A No. 4 Western 1-0 in a home game. It was the first win of the season for Heights.
The Huskies scored their run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sam Allen broke up a Panthers’ no-hitter by smacking a double into left field. Erik Malott then hit a sacrifice bunt to move Allen to third base. After Heights absorbed a strikeout, Nate Hulen stepped up and sent a single into left field, getting Allen home for the walk-off win.
Meanwhile, Lucas Letsinger pitched an incredible game. Letsinger allowed only two hits (singles in the third and fifth innings), while striking out seven.
The Huskies are 1-1 in conference play and 1-6 overall. Heights’ next game is Friday when it hosts Maconaquah.

Guerin Catholic won a Circle City Conference game with Covenant Christian 6-2 on Wednesday, finishing the series with a split.
The Golden Eagles had to wait until the fourth inning to get on the board, but it was worth it, as they scored four runs. Will Fremion singled in Clay Patton for the first score, then Braden Reel got home on an error. Anthony Ferrucci batted in Fremion, and Sam Tabor smacked a center field double to get Ferrucci home.
The Warriors scored twice in the top of the fifth inning, but GC got both of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Aidan Morse doubled in Patton, then Reel scored on Fremion’s RBI groundout.
Patton went 2-for-3 at the plate, with Fremion driving in two runs. Morse got the pitching win, striking out four in four and one third innings.
The Golden Eagles are 2-3 and play at 1A No. 4 Riverton Parke this afternoon.

Carmel picked up a Metropolitan Conference victory on Wednesday, beating Lawrence North 5-0 at Hartman field.
The 4A No. 8 Greyhounds got their first run in the first inning. Nick Mitchell was hit by a pitch, advanced to third base on a double by Cody Kantz, then scored after Griffin Wolf hit a sacrifice fly.
Carmel added two runs in the second inning. Alex Richter got home on Mitchell’s RBI groundout, then Kantz batted in Winston Berglund. In the third inning, Daniel Cunningham hit a solo home run into right field, making the score 4-0.
The ‘Hounds got one more run in the sixth inning, when Nathan MacLaren singled in Connor Gioia. Kantz finished the game with two hits.
Aidan McConnell went five innings for the pitching win, striking out four.
Carmel’s Tuesday game with Lawrence North finished in a 7-7 tie. The contest was halted in the seventh inning due to darkness.
The Greyhounds scored in the top of the first inning when JD Rogers stole home plate. The Wildcats took the lead back in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs.
But Carmel jumped back in front in the third inning. Kantz doubled in Mitchell, then would later score himself on a wild pitch. The ‘Hounds now led 3-2, and kept that advantage until the fourth inning, when LN scored twice to take a 4-3 lead.
Carmel quickly tied the game in the top of the fifth when Kantz hit a home run into right field. But the Wildcats scored three in the bottom of the inning, and now led 7-4.
In the top of the seventh, Mitchell singled to get on base, advanced to third base on an error, and scored on Kantz’s RBI groundout. Rogers got on base after being hit by a pitch, then Jackson Micheels hit a two-run homer into right field. That tied the game at 7-7, and Carmel held off LN in the bottom of the inning.
Kantz totaled three RBIs; he Evan Neukam and Rogers all hit one double. Aiden Aitken pitched three innings and struck out seven, with Jack Bruington striking out five in two innings of relief.
The Greyhounds are 1-0-1 in MIC play and 4-1-1 overall. Carmel hosts Roncalli on Friday.

Westfield, ranked No. 2 in 4A, played to a 4-4 tie with 4A No. 4 Cathedral on Wednesday. The game was called after eight innings due to darkness.
The Irish scored twice in the bottom of the first inning. The Shamrocks took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third, starting with Quentin Markle hitting a left field home run. Later, Westfield loaded the bases and drew back-to-back walks. Isaac Minder’s base-on balls scored Trey Dorton, and Cody South’s walk got Casey Fanelli home.
The ‘Rocks scored another run in the fourth inning when Dorton singled in Jack Woodard. Cathedral added a run in the bottom of the fourth, then tied the game with one run in the sixth inning.
Dorton finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate, while Markle was 2-for-4. Kade Robinson pitched five and two thirds innings in relief, striking out six.
“Kade gave us a tremendous outing in relief. He filled the zone up, made some big pitches and commanded his secondary pitches well,” said Westfield coach Ryan Bunnell.
The Shamrocks are 6-0-1 and travel to Brownsburg today to begin a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with the Bulldogs.

Sheridan dropped a 16-8 Hoosier Heartland Conference game at 2A No. 6 Clinton Prairie on Wednesday.
The Blackhawks started out strong, scoring four runs in the first inning. Cole Bales led off with a single, then moved to third base on a double by Silas DeVaney. Cameron Hovey’s base hit scored Bales, then Collin McNair singled in DeVaney. Later, Zach Bales’ base hit scored Hovey and McNair.
The Gophers got a run back in the bottom of the first, and Sheridan responded with a run in the top of the second. Cole Bales smacked a triple to get on base, and scored on DeVaney’s RBI groundout.
That put the ‘Hawks up 5-2. But Prairie took over after that, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sheridan tied the game in the third inning with three runs: Zach Bales batted in McNair, then Evan Grinstead’s single scored Preston Weir and Nathan Henshaw. The game stayed tied until the fourth inning, when the Gophers scored a run and held the lead from there.
DeVaney finished with a triple and a double. Cole Bales, McNair and Zach Bales also had two hits each.
The Blackhawks are 0-3 and host Indiana School for the Deaf this afternoon.
