At the Tuesday, Feb. 23, meeting of the Hamilton Heights’ Superintendent Advisory Group (SAG), attendees were treated to a glimpse into what Heights’ campus could look like in the future.
Kristin McCarty, Hamilton Heights School Corporation (HHSC) Business Manager, and Dori Hochstedler, HHSC Project Vision Director, shared an engaging presentation on the Master Plan that contained a lot of exciting and interesting information at this stage of its development.
While still in the early phases, and under construction, the concepts included in the Master Plan was designed to illustrate different ideas and create conversations. Based on the input at the meeting, it did just that, indicating the corporation is moving in the right direction. The plan also provides for informed decision making with current improvement projects and to serve as the corporation’s roadmap for the transformation and upgrades of its facilities while adding new amenities. The HHSC Board of School Trustees committed to keeping a flat tax rate in 2014 and that commitment remains as an integral part of developing and finalizing the plan.
The goal is to continue to ensure the corporation is addressing issues and creating a campus that provides the amenities and learning environment to best benefit its students, staff, and the community. Heights has a legacy of providing the type of amenities and learning environment that inspires, motivates, supports, and engages the whole child. Heights’ vision and ability to carefully plan for improvements and additions throughout has resulted in state-of-the-art facilities, optimal learning environments, improved student achievement, and strong community partnerships.
“We are currently discussing what our campus can look like over the next 10 to 20 years,” said Superintendent Dr. Derek Arrowood. “While no official decisions have been made, conversations about a solar field, football bleacher enhancements, transportation department upgrades, athletic surface improvements, and a wellness center are all being discussed as potential future enhancements to make our great facilities for students even better.”
“Project Vision is wrapping up this year, and it primarily focuses on our academic facilities,” said HHSC Project Vision Director Dori Hochstedler. “The Master Plan will provide a blueprint for the future of our campus that will enhance our support services, outdoor athletics, extra-curricular activities and the wellness of our students. The ‘Vision’ continues – it’s an exciting time to be a Husky!”
“We are really excited to be in a position to continue to invest in the growth and scope of our campus,” Arrowood added. “We are fully committed to using our tax dollars wisely as we create optimal learning and teaching environments for students and staff now and well into the future.”
The next Superintendent Advisory Group is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28 at Hamilton Heights Middle School, 25150 State Road 19, Arcadia.
