Carmel City Council to recognize International Women’s Day in unique way

At its upcoming March 1 meeting at 6 p.m., the Carmel City Council will highlight International Women’s Day (which is observed on March 8) by inviting women who work in various city departments to attend the meeting in their uniforms, and watch as two young Carmel residents present their petition asking the city to ban the use of “Men at Work” construction signs.

The girls, ages 9 and 11, wrote to Council President Sue Finkam to make the request to ban the signs. The Council will consider a resolution to do that, an action that is largely symbolic as the federal government and State of Indiana already do not permit usage of these signs.

However, the Council felt it was important to indicate to those working in the community how others to be treated.

City of Carmel government meetings are broadcast live on the city’s website as well as local access television. Visit carmel.in.gov and click on CarmelTV icon at the bottom of the page.
