Camden Brown had 16 points and Sabien Cain 10 as the University boys picked up a 56-42 road win against Sectional 42 rival Indianapolis Scecina Memorial Saturday afternoon.
A 13-0 run spanning the first and second quarters proved decisive as the Trailblazers improved to 13-5 on the season.
Trailing 8-5 midway through the first quarter, Brown tied the game with a three pointer off an assist from Kasey Ash-Simpson. Cain stole the ball and scored on a layup to put University ahead to stay. Cain added two foul shots and Mitchell Martin hit a corner three-pointer off a pass from Nate Jeffrey and University led 15-8 after the first quarter. University made 5 of 6 field goals in the opening period.
Another three pointer by Brown completed the 13-0 run early in the second quarter. Brown added seven points in the second quarter as the Trailblazers extended their lead to 29-19 at halftime.
University added to its lead throughout the third quarter. Ash-Simpson and Jeffery scored early in the period, before Cain added four straight points. A three-pointer from the left corner by Jeffrey in the waning seconds gave University a 42-28 lead after three.
The Crusaders made a run early in the fourth quarter hitting two three-pointers as part of an 8-1 run that cut the University lead to 44-36. Matt Jones stopped the Scecina momentum with a three-pointer from the left wing. Brown came back with a basket and Martin fed Larry Pierce for a bucket and the lead was back up to 51-36 and University cruised to the final.
Cain and Jeffrey each had six rebounds while Brown pulled down five caroms. Martin handed out a team-high four assists.
The Trailblazers will play their final home game of the season Tuesday night when they host Decatur Central at The U Center before closing the regular season Thursday at Indianapolis Bishop Chatard.
