Royals get OT comeback victory over Marauders

Hamilton Southeastern recovered from a late deficit to force overtime against Mount Vernon in a Saturday home game, then went on to beat the Marauders 79-73.
Mount Vernon led 21-15 after the first quarter and 35-31 at halftime, then pushed its lead into double digits by the end of the third period, where it led 49-39.
The Marauders were still up by 10 with four minutes to go before the Royals went on a 9-0 run to get back into the game. The contest was tied with a minute to go, then MV’s Armon Jarrad hit a 3-pointer with eight seconds left.
Southeastern’s Jason Stutz was fouled with four seconds left and made both free throws. On the inbound, HSE’s Sam Jacobs stole the ball and got fouled. Jacobs made a foul shot, sending the game into overtime. The Royals then pulled away in the extra period, outscoring the Marauders 14-8.
Southeastern coach Brian Satterfield said his team “played with a lot of fight and heart. We got down early and just kept fighting all night long and somehow found a way to win.”
Jacobs led the Royals with 22 points and seven rebounds. Vinny Buccilla earned a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists. Dalton Retzner scored 15 points, while Stutz had four assists and two blocked shots.
Southeastern is 6-6 and hosts Connersville on Tuesday.
