Millers gymnastics team opens season

The Noblesville gymnastics team opened its season Monday by hosting a four-team dual meet at Noblesville East Middle School.
The Millers finished with a team score of 89.75, behind first-place Lapel with 97.475 and second-place Bloomington South with 95.625. Fishers’ Savannah Strange also competed at the meet, scoring 20.50 points for the Tigers.
Noblesville has a young team this season, with five freshmen, two sophomores and a junior. That junior is Hailey Knoll, she and sophomore Keira Harper are returning from last season and are the team captains.
Millers coach Jody Ramey is happy with the team, saying that her young squad is coming into the season “with a vibrant and determined start.”
“They’re all excited to be part of the team and they’re all excited to be there and be willing to learn,” said Ramey. “Being coachable is a big deal. These girls just mesh well together, the chemistry’s great, they’re all happy to be there and willing to learn.”
Noblesville, as it traditionally does, had its strongest performance on the vault. Knoll finished fifth in that event with a score of 8.35, the Millers’ highest score of the night. Harper posted an 8.20 as did freshman Lauren Paska. Another freshman, Sierra Graue, scored an 8.05.
Harper had the highest place for Noblesville, taking fourth on the floor exercise with an 8.00. She also finished fourth in the all-around competition with a 31.20. Knoll was sixth by scoring 30.25 and freshman Lyrric Barnett totaled a 26.50.
Harleigh Abbott and Jessica Tret are the other two freshmen on this year’s Noblesville team, while Kendall Perez is the other sophomore.
“I think they had a lot of nerves with last night, and that’s okay,” said Ramey. She said there were “a lot of positive things” that came out of the meet.
“This group of girls, they want to do better,” said Ramey. “It’s just a starting off point, and I’m proud of their starting off point.”
Noblesville’s next meet is Saturday at the Northwestern Invitational.
