Caboose contributes to Spring Mill Station Plan . . .
A 1972 Caboose from Whitewater Valley Railroad now sits on the southeast quadrant of 161st Street and Spring Mill Road.
“The Spring Mill Station Plan was completed in 2014 in an effort to provide guidance to developers interested in investing in the 161st Street and Spring Mill Road intersection,” explains Mayor Andy Cook. “The heart of the plan consists of a group of residents, the Spring Mill Station Task Group, who represents the true definition of community contribution. The residents are creating a sense of place and the caboose proves what a community can do when they come together.”
“The Spring Mill Station Task Group is made up of dedicated community volunteers and City officials who have committed their time to help establish a set of visionary boundaries for the intersection,” says Mark Christoffersen of the Spring Mill Station Task Group. “Along with the cooperation from Peacock Properties and the Spring Mill Station Task Group, what you are seeing is an iconic marker symbolizing nearly a decade of dedication, hard work and commitment in creating a community destination.”
Cooperstown Partners, LLC purchased the historic caboose through a donation to the Whitewater Valley Railroad in Connersville, Ind. The train car was placed on the southeast corner of the 161st Street and Spring Mill Road intersection on Aug. 31. The developers have built an outdoor patio seating area to enhance the community experience.
