Boys basketball roundup: Shamrocks beat Marauders, now 8-0

Westfield got an early challenge at Mount Vernon on Tuesday, but got it together in the second quarter and came home with a 63-51 victory, staying unbeaten for the season.
The Class 4A No. 5 Shamrocks were down 17-13 after the first quarter, but took control in the second period, holding the Marauders to nine points and scoring 19 of their own to lead 32-26 at halftime. Westfield poured in another 19 points in the third quarter, and cruised from there.
Cam Haffner had an outstanding night, scoring 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Braden Smith and Nic Depasquale both contributed 14 points. Smith also had seven assists and six rebounds, while Depasquale collected five rebounds. Benji Welch and Haffner both handed out four assists.
The Shamrocks are 8-0 and go back on the road Saturday, playing at 4A No. 2 Carmel.

Huskies take care of Lebanon, 60-33

Hamilton Heights won its fourth straight game on Tuesday, taking care of Lebanon 60-33 at the Tigers’ Rosensthil Gymnasium.
The Huskies outscored Lebanon in each of the four quarters, leading 19-13 after the first period. Heights’ defense took over in the next three quarters, never allowing the Tigers more than eight points per period. The Huskies led 36-18 at halftime.
Gus Etchison scored 21 points for Heights and also collected seven rebounds. Braden Kinder added 11 points, while Luke Carroll scored eight points, pulled eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Drew VanOeveren had five rebounds.
The Huskies are 4-1 and travel to Northwestern on Friday for their first Hoosier Conference East Division game of the season.

Tigers fall to No. 4 Bronchos

Fishers traveled to Lafayette Jefferson on Tuesday for a game with the Class 4A No. 4 Bronchos, and fell 79-60.
Lafayette Jeff, which is unbeaten for the season at 11-0, was in control from the start, leading 22-8 after the first quarter. The Tigers got their offense going in the second period, scoring 23 points, including nine from Bryce Williams. But the Bronchos scored 24, giving them a 46-31 lead at halftime. Jeff then maintained that advantage in the second half, although Charlie Smith was a bright spot for Fishers, scoring 11 points in the second half.
Smith finished as the Tigers’ leading scorer with 15 points. Williams and Lucas Prewitt both had 11; Prewitt made three 3-pointers. Sean Millsaps added 10 points.
Fishers is 4-3 and plays at Pike on Friday.
