Hamilton County Coroner, John Chalfin, has identified the pilot killed in Thursday’s airplane crash at Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport located in Fishers as 78-year-old Carmel resident Norman Levine.
Investigators confirmed Levine was the only person aboard the two-seat single-engine plane that crashed in a grassy area after takeoff. The plane reportedly had extensive damage and caught fire at the time of the crash.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport is owned by the Indianapolis International Airport and services approximately 24,000 flights per year.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have not yet determined the cause of the accident.
