Sophomore Jordan Patterson scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Class 2A No. 3 University girls to a 66-42 win over Indianapolis Tindley Thursday night at The U Center.
Kelsey DuBois and Sierra Hinds had 16 points each and Payton Seay gave the Trailblazers four in double figures with 12 points. DuBois had her sixth double-double of the season with a game-high 13 rebounds. Patterson had eight rebounds and Seay had six as University outrebounded Tindley 43-34.
Each of University’s double-digit scorers had their own mini-run of points as the Blazers steadily built their lead. Patterson had seven of the first eight points of the game as University opened a lead of 8-0. Seay scored six straight to help University take a 14-8 lead after the first quarter.
Hinds scored eight straight points in 70 seconds early in the second quarter to put University ahead by double figures for good. University led by as many as 17 before taking a 30-17 halftime advantage.
DuBois took over in the third quarter scoring 11 points with Patterson adding another eight as University put the game away with a 54-26 lead after the third. Hinds added another seven-point run in the fourth quarter.
University is now 8-0 on the season. Tindley has lost four games in a row and is now 5-6 on the season.
The Trailblazers will play again Saturday afternoon at Sectional 43 host Cascade. The varsity-only contest against the 7-3 Cadets will tip at noon.
University was scheduled to play in Monrovia’s Holiday tournament. That tournament has been canceled for this season. The Trailblazers will play instead in the Lady Devils Holiday Tournament at Tipton. University is matched against Tri-Central at noon Dec. 29. The Blazers will play their second game at 6 p.m. that evening against Carroll (Flora) or Southwestern Shelbyville. The final games will be played the night of Dec. 30.
