The Westfield wrestling team hosted its annual Shamrock Duals on Saturday.
Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern also participated in the event. The Greyhounds won the team title; Carmel was unbeaten in Pool “B” competition over Lawrence Central 84-0, Delta 75-0 and Mount Vernon Posey 52-19, then defeated Westfield in the first-place dual 39-23.
Undefeated (4-0) wrestlers for the Greyhounds were Gavin Thompson at 106, Brac Hooper at 126, Luke Farling at 132, Robert Major at 160 and Jake Shafer at 170. Billy Kepler was 3-0 at 182. Carmel wrestlers going 3-1 were Isaac Ward (113), Eitan Halevi (120), TJ Barrett (145), Vladislav Balaban (195), Zach White (220) and Jack Milligan (285). Nathan Powell was 2-1 at 152
The Royals and the ‘Rocks competed in Pool “A.” Westfield was undefeated in the pool, beating Greencastle 54-19, Southeastern 48-16 and Fort Wayne Carroll 49-24. The Shamrocks had four wrestlers go 4-0 for the event: Dylan Driver at 113, Braxton Vest at 120, Alec McLaren at 138 and Gabe Arvin at 220. Ian Watson was 2-0 at 145. Austin McClure (170) and Mike Paltonov (285) both finished the day 3-1.
The Royals finished second in the pool competition, beating Carroll 34-33 and Greencastle 51-26. Southeastern fell to Mount Vernon Posey 42-31 in the placement match to finish fourth overall. Three wrestlers finished 3-1 for the Royals: Matios Benson at 106, Zach Lang at 138, Ryan Cast at 170 and Jake Schneider at 182.
