Boys tennis: Huskies win hard-fought dual

The Hamilton Heights boys tennis team won a hard-fought dual meet with Lewis Cass 3-2 on Tuesday.
The Huskies swept the singles positions to get the win, with No. 1 singles Hawkins Hochstedler coming from behind to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. No. 2 Hudson Hochstedler was victorious 6-3, 6-2 and No. 3 Adam Gross won 7-5, 6-2.
“This week is a busy one for us with matches tonight, Wednesday, and Thursday, so we were pleased to start things off with a win,” said Heights coach Cameron Scott. “Hawkins Hochstedler showed a lot of character and maturity tonight.  I know he didn’t feel like he was playing his best tennis, but he was still able to fight his way through a three-setter.  That’s a sign of just how far he’s come as a player.”

Noblesville dropped a dual meet to No. 21 Lapel 3-2 on Monday.
The Millers won both doubles matches. No. 1 Ben Smith and Evan Voigt got a close victory, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-8 in the third-set super tiebreak. No. 2 doubles Ryan Plummer and Jackson Ramey were 7-5, 6-0 winners.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 22, dropped a 5-0 match to No. 2-ranked North Central on Tuesday.
“All matches were lost in straight sets,” said HSE coach Kirk Webber. “I thought we hit the ball pretty well, but just made too many unforced errors in the singles matches and struggled to keep it away from the net players in the doubles matches. And North Central is a tough team with a lot of firepower.”

Guerin Catholic swept Bishop Chatard 5-0 on Tuesday, winning all five matches in straight set.
In singles, No. 1 Wyatt Metzger was a 6-0, 6-0 winner, No. 2 Cole Metzger breezed through his match 6-0, 6-1 and No. 3 Ryan McIlvenna won in two tiebreaks, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5).
AJ Hacker and Jake Bratton easily won for No. 7-ranked Guerin Catholic at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Shane Shuler and Michael Aikman got a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
