Top-ranked Carmel wins at Heritage Christian

Carmel went on the road for the first time this season on Thursday, and came home with a 61-48 victory over Heritage Christian.
The Greyhounds, who are ranked No. 1 in the Class 4A ICGSA poll, led 14-10 after one quarter. Carmel then took command in the second period, outscoring the Eagles 17-7 for a 31-17 halftime lead. Kate Clarke scored eight points in the second quarter. Heritage cut into the Greyhounds’ advantage slightly in the third quarter, but Carmel finished the game with a 19-point fourth quarter.
Clarke poured in 24 points for the game, including a pair of 3-pointers. Bridget Dunn also hit two 3s on her way to 13 points, and also had nine rebounds and four steals. Riley Pennington added 10 points and collected seven rebounds. Emily Roper had eight rebounds and Evan Spidel handed out four assists.
Carmel is 2-0 for the season and plays at Zionsville on Tuesday.
