This year’s football team is stacked with a lot of potential and talent. We have mainly juniors throughout the whole team with just five seniors and three sophomores. Now, keep in mind this is only varsity. With all of the potential we have, we knew we were going to have a good year.

For the first game of the season, for many seasons, we have played Western Boone. They’ve beat us for a decade – only this year, there was a different outcome. We beat them in a close fourth quarter win, 21-20. It was the first time in a decade. We were all ecstatic. After Western Boone, we were supposed to play Clinton Central. They ended up getting shut down due to COVID. Instead, we played Benton Central. They weren’t the best team overall, and we beat them 48-6 for the win.

At this point, we were all excited being 2-0. The next week was going to be Tri Central. We knew they weren’t very good, so we got even more excited, but then more than half of our starters were taken away for being around someone who tested positive for COVID. With having none of the team, there we were empty, and everything fell apart that week. We ended up losing to Tri Central 21-0.

After this loss, we were all a bit down and knew we had another rough week ahead of us at Delphi. With the whole healthy team, we could’ve beat Delphi easily. We didn’t have the whole team though. The game ended up being canceled. With that happening, we had plenty of time to regroup, and we also got our team back. That week of practice we were getting ready for Clinton Prairie. With the whole team back, we beat them 33-7.

Then, after getting warmed back up from being gone so long, we had a good week of practice and beat Taylor 65-22. After Taylor we played Seeger. We ended up losing to Seeger 14-28. It was just a rough game for us. We have some things to figure out so we can get back on track.

We have three more games left, but we don’t know if Carroll will be able to play us. Before Carroll we have Eastern. After Carroll is the first round of sectionals. Carroll just got quarantined and we don’t know if they’ll be back in time for us. Hopefully, if they aren’t back, we can find another team to go and play for our last game of the regular season.

This season is going really well for us, and we hope to keep going as far as we can. We all understand what we are capable of; it’s just a matter of if we use our abilities and potential to its fullest.

A state title hasn’t been earned by Sheridan since 2007. Fingers crossed for this year.
