Retired Carmel teacher running for school board

Submitted

Miller

For more than three decades, Paige Miller taught in the Carmel Clay School District. Many of her students have gone on to become doctors, CEOs, lawyers, teachers and even elected officials.

She runs into her former students all the time. She’s friends with them on Facebook and she’s even taught some of their children years later.

Miller retired in 2020 as a fourth grade High Ability teacher at Smoky Row Elementary. But now she wants to give back in a different way.

Miller has filed to run for one of the two at-large spots for the Carmel Clay School Board.

“I am running because I believe we need more parental transparency and collaboration, which is more important than ever before,” Miller said. “My philosophy is that parents should parent and teachers should teach. Parents should know what’s going on in the classroom and we all can work together to provide the best outcomes for the student.”

Voters can select up to two out of the nine candidates in the nonpartisan Nov. 3 eleciton.

Whether it’s coaching the Spell Bowl team to five state titles or giving individual attention to a child who was struggling, Miller has always been a leader both in and out of the classroom.

“I love all of my students and I’m so proud that they have grown into responsible, caring adults,” she said. “However, during my final few years of teaching I saw some current policies that would limit a student’s full potential.”

Miller is a past board member of the Carmel Teachers Association and while she fights for her fellow teachers, her true allegiance will always be with the students. They are priority number one.

Miller knows that members of the Carmel Clay School Board often have to make tough decisions, but she will be guided by her 33 years of experience and her dedication to what is right.

“The key is to always think about what’s best for the student,” she said. “That is above all else.”

Mrs. Miller has my vote! She is totally qualified to be on this school board. Daughter of a former Carmel Middle School teacher, spent her entire student life in Carmel Clay Schools and taught in Carmel Clay Schools for 33 years! Who is better qualified?
