Model train fans can rejoice, for not all events have been canceled due to COVID-19. Stephen Nelson, better known as Mr. Muffin, is organizing a safe, outdoor, family-friendly event in downtown Atlanta on Oct. 3.

“September has arrived, and we are headed into the peak season for model railroading,” Nelson told The Reporter. “Unfortunately, since the COVID-19 issues have occurred, train shows everywhere have been and are being canceled.”

With a strong focus on both rural economic development and providing safe events for families, Mr. Muffin has stepped up to help fill in that gap this season.

“Weather is beautiful here in early October, so we have decided to host an outdoor train show on Main Street in Atlanta,” Nelson said. “With proper social distancing and masks, we feel like this will be a safe way for people to show their trains.”

The outdoor train show will take place on Main Street in Atlanta from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mr. Muffin’s Trains, 165 E. Main St., Atlanta, is home to the third-largest O-gauge model train layout in the country. Both the layout and the shop will both be open to the public during the outdoor train show.

Food will be available for purchase and all COVID-19 protocols will be observed for public safety.

“To date, we have 10 additional vendors signed up to host at least two tables each, and I expect more in the coming week,” Nelson said.

If you own a business and would like to be part of this event, call (765) 292-2022 to reserve your spot.

This event is free and open to the public.
